The final scene of Act One portrays the return of the exiles to the Promised Land. The return from exile involves three sub-plots : 1) The rebuilding of the Temple. 2) The rebuilding the walls of the ancient city of Jerusalem. 3) The renewal of the nation’s commitment to God. With the Temple rebuilt, the city restored, and the people recommitted to the covenant, the stage is set for Act Two.
